Lurian Klein

Dr. Lurian Klein is a Senior Innovation Developer at Cleanwatts, where he leads the design and coordination of multimillion-euro European R&D&I projects in the fields of energy communities, smart grids, and local energy markets. With a unique interdisciplinary background—holding a PhD in Sustainable Energy Systems (MIT Portugal programme at the University of Coimbra)—his academic work focused on uncovering the social value of renewable energy communities.

Profoundly committed to advancing the clean energy transition, Dr. Lurian Klein blends expertise in engineering and the social sciences to promote socio-technological innovation and systemic change. His work is guided by a personal vision of strengthening democratic values, reducing energy poverty and injustice, promoting the sharing economy, and accelerating equitable access to renewable energy.

At Cleanwatts, he focuses on user-centric energy services, energy flexibility, community engagement, social value creation, and the conceptualization of new business models. He also plays a key role in UI/UX design for digital energy tools, policy co-creation, and strategic partnership development.
