Programme

InterConnecting smart grids, homes and buildings through interoperability.
Drs. Gjalt Loots, Senior Project Manager at TNO
The EU project InterConnect, which concluded in March 2024, delivered a set of important results to speed up the energy transition and digitalization of the EU energy system as a whole. We will look at the project’s key outputs and the impact they may have in this context, such as a set of energy application demonstrators across more than 10 EU member states to date.

Unlocking the interoperablity: transforming buildings for enhanced energy efficiency.
Jorrit Nutma, MSc. Researcher energy flexibility at TNO
To validate the applicability and real potential of the InterConnect innovations, the project contains 7 large scale pilot demonstrations. We will highlight the Dutch pilot demonstration, which comprises a shared-space office building and rental apartment building. Those buildings have been equipped with thousands of smart sensors and hundreds of smart appliances turning them into the perfect playground to realize use-cases such as the increase of energy optimization.

Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Standardized IoT and Grid Data Integration.
Dr. R.M. Siebes, Assistant Professor at UCDS group VU Amsterdam
In this session, we’ll dive into how the Dutch Interconnect pilot has become a treasure trove of data, transformed into a standardized and semantic model, fueling AI research. Discover new algorithms capable of forecasting scenarios, detecting sensor errors, and providing insights through data aggregation. Experience firsthand the user-friendly environment developed to enable stakeholders from various fields to easily understand and interact with AI models. Gain valuable insights into the future of AI applications in energy and beyond!

Exploring the societal impact of smart appliances fort connecting homes and grids.
Ronnie Groenewold, MSc. Innovation Manager at Volkerwessels iCity
Uncover how Dutch residents are shaping sustainable Living with Interconnect Project’s Smart Home Technologies at the Next building in Strijp S, Eindhoven. Engage in this seminar to explore the real-life impacts and customer experiences firsthand. Discover insights from the in-depth societal impact study which is contributing to the future path of interconnected homes and grids!”

Hedge-IoT: the next project with more impact for interoperability at Arnhems Buiten.
Wouter Beelen, Program Manager at Arnhems Buiten
Explore the Frontier of Smart Grid Technology at Arnhems Buiten with Hedge-IoT! Building on nearly a century of energy and innovation, we’re thrilled to introduce the European project Hedge-IoT—a groundbreaking follow-up project focused on next-level interoperability and smart grid enhancement. Over the next 3 years, in partnership with 44 businesses, academic, and research institutions, including TNO and VU Amsterdam, we’re tackling the challenges of sustainability and smart grid technology. Join our presentation right here at Arnhems Buiten!
