BuildZero Testevent

From May 19 to 21, ElaadNL, ENI, and BMWT are organizing the second test event for charging mobile electric construction equipment. This BuildZero Test Event, held at the Elaad Test Lab in Arnhem, addresses the transition to emission-free construction. As the industry shifts from fossil fuels to electric propulsion, new challenges arise, such as the standardization of charging solutions. This second event takes important steps toward solving these issues and contributes to the realization of zero-emission construction sites.

ElaadNL’s Outlook Bouw report predicts a significant increase in demand for charging infrastructure for emission-free construction. One of the key conclusions is that standardization is essential to enable large-scale emission-free construction. However, in practice, a standardized charging method is not yet the norm. Interoperability plays a crucial role in this standardization: can every emission-free mobile machine charge at any type of charging station?

Unique testevent for interoperability

The very first multi-day test event took place in November, where four construction vehicles, three battery systems, and three charging stations from different manufacturers were tested for interoperability. The results of these tests will be published and explained during an ElaadNL Webtalk on March 27. Given the need for further insights, a second test event is being organized during Arnhem Electricity Week.

In a controlled environment, the deployment of equipment on construction sites will be simulated, participants will conduct tests, share knowledge, and engineers will collaborate on-site to develop improvements.

Collaborating towards a sustainable future

Grid operators (represented by ElaadNL) and the construction sector aim to take a significant step toward sustainable construction solutions through the BuildZero Test Events. Collaboration is crucial to overcoming the challenges surrounding electric charging.
